Exclamation SH*T, Damn and what else more....

OK, I did myself a REAL number this time...

My laptop just went Bonkers on me...

So I planned yesterday to install SP3 for XP...
Well.. That went fine.. BUT.

I got the advice to uninstall IE7 first..
So after a Succesful SP3 instalation, I went on installing it...

I THOUGH it went fine.. But appairently it didn't.
I got this link to the M$ support site.
It gave me some pointers on how to install it with succes.
And I followed it... Sort of it seems.

What happened..?
Somewhere in the attempts to make sure IE7 got installed, I appairently F*ed up some settings or so and basicly Killed all network connectivity.

And from how it is looking now it seems I'm forced to utilize the Laptops System restore partition to make the entire system working again,
And reinstall every app and game afterwards.

I'm currently posting this on a college Desktop. (hence the obvious spelling errors)

So what's left for me to do now.....?
Well.. *sigh* I now need to save my "My Documents" folder on my D drive.
Make a written inventory of the (in the "Program Files" folder) installed Applications,
Check what's defenitely importand and what is less importand.

And then reinstall the WHOLE lot....
That's 1.5 years of installed programs, games and settings..
(that will take me weeks to accomplish!!)

So it seems I will not be able to get online that often till it's all fixed.

See you guy's (and girls) sometime soon (I really hope that) And let's hope all ends well..

*SIGH!*

congratulations! why are you using IE7 anyway?!? there are so many better browser available out there...

Also, there is a command in windows that will make the list of files and/or folders. in case you were getting ready to use pen and paper...

so you plan to do a complete reinstall because you network is currently not working?!? that's just ridiculous...

first you can reisntall any network drivers and do all the settings (provided by your internet supplier), next get some other browser and surf the net...

IE7 is Required for some specific Sites I need to be on... School.. M$..
(for the Rest I use firefox)

The not working network is just a symptom.
(drivers are still there)

BTW. My entire system is working Freakishly slow AND it's not booting properly.
(and it takes TOO MUCH time)

Their is SO MUCH not doing their jobs, that I really see no other option.
(programs, setting,.... Way too much)

Also the only restore option I have available is the machines Restore partition....
(So that will bring my machine all the way back to Day 1 !!)

Also. I'll be glad if I can even pop up the "Program files" folder content..

It's THAT bad..

CCleaner, RegCompact.Net, and a proper defrag. See if that changes anything.

Well.. Defrag isn't the case..
I Defrag my system on a regular basis.

About RegCleaners.....
I think they might do more harm now then the could do any good..
(since a LOT isn't working anymore..... )

Sorry friend, but you're the only one to blame here.
Never heard of a full system backup before doing a major upgrade?
Lazyness..... lazyness....

Takes 10 minutes to backup your C:\ partition, if things go wrong another 10 minutes to put it back.
As many times as you want, and learn WHERE it goes wrong.

Not this one - see for yourself.
And, RegCompact.NET is not a cleaner. Think: registry defragger.
I've been using both for several years with no problems whatsoever.

True. It's not like there isn't plenty of utility CD's floating around with partition imaging tools on them.

Never use My Documents folder. That's stupid new addition, I hated it after I caouldn't find my GTA saves. I had no idea they were placed in My Documents by default. And so it does with saves in many games.

If one knows how, the entire "my documents" directory can be transferred to another partition and retain full functionality.

windows default system restore does the trick. and no, don't start your story with "misfortune" about the system restore, it worked for absolutely anybody, flawlessly gazillion of times, except for you

btw if you are anxious about 'registry cleaners' you could search for "run" keys in regedit.exe for yourself. or run start->run thingie, type in msconfig and see the 'startup' items
