HI,

im new here and i dont know where else to go. I am trying to play my old Wizards and Warriors (2000) game on my computer (Windows XP). The game runs fine up until i get to the Serpent Temple and the game crashes as soon as i kill the Naga Queen. :wallbash: The error message says that Windows can not read the memory or something like that. I have researched many other sites and i have already instaled the 1.1 patch (apperently the only patch every made for this very buggy game). According to other sites the crash occurs because of a compatiblity issue.

Wizards and Warriors was designed for Windows 95. Ok no problem i just gotta turn on the compatiblity to run the game disc on Windows 95, but i dont think it is working cuz i am still crashing at that exact same point in the game. :wallbash: So i go to the microsoft site and i get instructions on how to set the compatiablity on the CD Rom and i cant find the damn "program compatiblity wizard" on my PC! I mean i follow the directions to the letter and in the tab where it says use program compatiblity wizard i get an empty page with the word "undefinded" at the top!!! WTH is that!! :wallbash: SO i call up Dell (they made the computer maybe they know where that program is) and they want to charge me $223 to fix my problem!!!

can anyone help me?!! The game used to run fine before. maybe it is the new video card? im running outta ideas. Please someone help!

$233? You can get it the full compability toolkit for free@ MS
MS Comp Toolkit

But first try this:
open command window 'run' (start->run -I think it's called run in English)
input: dxdiag
You will get a DXdiag screen (now yeah), click on 'screen' tab, disable acceleration and try your game again.
Don't forget to enable it again after you've played.
And no, it won't kill your PC.

One for VPC ?

*Edit
That is if it can run is software mode, if the game needs 3D support, it won't run swell in VPC.
(I don't have that game, so I only can give some far shots here).
But most W95 era games had a software mode.

Try disabling Vsync and try again.

You could try MS's Virtual PC. As far as I know it's free and it's relatively hassle free if you have a powerful enough rig. It could run your game natively, as long as you still have an installation of Windows 95 to put on the virtual PC.
