DOS. Most definitely DOS.

Altough, the best time was around 1997/8 IMO, since that's when some actually good games started to come out for Windows as well.
DOS/95 machine = perfect gaming back then.

Nice one and true, so I noticed. I myself like the old games generally better, DOS or no-DOS, than the new ones. So I went to Abandonia for some down-to-business fun. But I also visit the C64 sites from time to time.

There are gems for all systems I guess.

BTW: I wish I had me one of those analogue pinball machines

You forgot the advent of 3D gaming and the popularization of console gaming by Nintendo so who cares about the silly old Amiga? :P
[/b]
Hey, I had a 3D pac man on my C64! :bleh: There's also Elite (in effect a 3D) and numerous flight sims (still in effect 3D)

In effect is valid. Remember, that due to a 2D monitor, true 3D is impossible. No matter the engine, it still comes down to apparent 3D.

Advent means emergence in a fancy fashion.
Which means that I'm talking about the period where everyone looked at 3D and said "we need to start using this" the best time would be 1995-1999 and that in my opinion is the golden era since it spawned some of the most revolutionary titles in history

I think that the golden age for any give person would be whenever they started gaming, because the games before that were crap technicaly, and the games after that just reused all the ideas from the previous games.

I don't know... I used to play the arcade games a lot before I got a C64. The difference was mainly the number of titles and the new genres. Technically, I would say that the txt adventures was a step back from many of the arcade games. But nevertheless, it was a genre that got me into all sorts of adventures, txt, p'n'c, interactives...

But: It all comes down to personal preferences.

Except for DOS maybe, all the game developers that're still around now said they hated DOS.

Not the games, I mean the DOS thing itself.

I had to use it for years before I got a proper PC, it was horrible.
I enjoyed the game with the two monkeys in the city throwing explosive bananas at eachother though

DosDosDos and Dos again.....At that time (most of the) games focused on gameplay instead of graphics - and that's what it's all about!

Another great thing in the Dos-days was - when this little kid comes over to you and asks "uh - can I borrow the computer or play something or whatever" - you just said: ok - and watched as he didn't know any commands and had to leave (add evil laughter if you please)
