Default Darkseed Sound

Hi guys,

I downloaded darkseed 1 a few days ago but have been struggling to get it to work properly and can't find a solution anywhere. I'm using DosBox 0.72. When I run ds.bat I choose Sound Blaster in the initial setup menu, but ingame it seems to be using adlib, i.e. there are no digitised sounds or speech. Using VDMSound doesn't seem to make a difference.

I downloaded another version from Old Cans, which doesn't work with dosbox, but runs with VDMSound and plays the proper sound effects and speech, but freezes a LOT, like when I get out of bed and go to the shower, so it's not really playable.

Anyone got the abandonia version working properly?

Thanks.

Dosbox config file =>

[gus]
# gus -- Enable the Gravis Ultrasound emulation.
# gusbase,irq1,irq2,dma1,dma2 -- The IO/IRQ/DMA addresses of the
# Gravis Ultrasound. (Same IRQ's and DMA's are OK.)
# gusrate -- Sample rate of Ultrasound emulation.
# ultradir -- Path to Ultrasound directory. In this directory
# there should be a MIDI directory that contains
# the patch files for GUS playback. Patch sets used
# with Timidity should work fine.

gus=false
gusrate=22050
gusbase=240
irq1=5
irq2=5
dma1=3
dma2=3
ultradir=C:\ULTRASND

or something.... I thought, should testrun it again, if I find time ....

Yeah I set gus, pcspeaker, tandy, disney, joystick, basically everything except midi and sb to false, but none of that made a difference.

Sure. The first time round I run ds /m and choose 3 for sound blaster. Option 1 is pc speaker which obviously does nothing since it's disabled in dosbox.conf, and Option 2 is Adlib, which sounds the same as Sound Blaster.. well the other way round I suppose, my sound blaster sounds like adlib because it's not using sound blaster properly -- this is where the experts jump in =).
