It's typical when you've got a queque of things to do that's a mile and a half long

But yesterday I finally managed to check that archive. Turned out to be Advanced Power Dolls 2, and quite unfortunately it also refused to run on my system. In Windows 98 it crashes the system, in XP it just crashes, and I'm not really sure why.

In case anyone feels like trying their luck to run the game, the ED2K link is

EDIT: I've stumbled upon a sticky on Animereactor that appears to be related - seems there might be a way to get it running (which I'll promptly check as soon as I get back home)


Also, I've looked into modifying PD1 savegame files... it appears there is some sort of checksum, unfortunately, so I'll have to figure out where is it located and how to recalculate it.

What I did was enter the locale settings and changed the codepage for non-unicode-using programs to Japanese. Worked nice and clean, the game installed and works.

Now I "just" need to learn how to read Kanji. :P


PS. And, my eMule just reported download completion of something that appears to be a PC version of "basic" PD2. I'll take a look at it in the evening.

EDIT: Jackpot. That was indeed the DOS version of PD2. k:
Except I can't get the sound to work, and the readme is in Japanese. :wallbash:

Well, at least it's good to see PD is back in its proper place at the top of your priorities list, Fifth.

Also, Microsoft has something called "Applocale" on their site. Supposedly that works just as well, gonna try it on PD6 demo version this evening.

You must've forgotten, Fifth. I'm useless with computers. I don't even know how to work DOS.

It's in the Control Panel. That little "globe" icon where you change the language used by your system.
If you still don't have the foggiest what I'm talking about, I'll post a short tutorial for you.

Applocale works for most things, you can read more on it here. Easy to use.


PS. Found a Windows version of PD1... except that one is also in Japanese. Surprisingly, it allows you to access detailed stats for your pilots from the mission preparation screen.

And how does one get in contact with the people with the rights to the game? So I can write to them and demand an English version.

The best idea would probably be emailing user_support * at * kogado.com . If you can convince them... well, as much as it is unlikely, I'd love to see that happen.
