This topic is for my (or other's) problems with corrupted graphics in X-Com. Any help would be appreciated! For background, go to: http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?s...145&st=2940
(Original Problem) This is my favorite game of all time; can someone help me? I used to be able to play, it, I believe the version from here, but then my computer crashed and I had to format my drive. Now I can't get the graphics to work properly, the colors get all screwed up, for example on the opening screen the "Microprose" letters are light blue instead of red. Also, the screen resolution is too big, it goes off the screen. I am using the Abandonia version, running it from the UFO with the sun logo. I have tried all the compatiability options, including 256 colors and 640x420 resolution. This is really frustrating as the busted graphics make it difficult to see bordering on impossible. Thanks! PS. I am using a Intel 84845G/GL/GE/PE/GV graphics card. PPS. Great game, otherwise. EDIT: I can't believe I forgot this the first time- I have WinXP Home. |

The sun icon? I guess you're playing the Windows version, known for it's bugs running under Windows.
Did you try the DOS version with DOSBox? That's what I was doing in the UFO thread. You can download the DOS version at the same place you can download the Windows version. |

I suggest the DOS version too. It works fine but you will have to use DOSBox to run it.

This is not really helpfull...
I have no idea where you're getting the "sun icon" from. If you're using the DOS version, there should be no such things. If you can't add something else on what commands you use, what you do exactly... I can't really help you more than what I did on the Ufo thread. Screenshots might help too, if possible. |

Here are the screenshots..... I think my graphics card is on the fritz as Deus also had corrupted graphics and my Google resolution is way too big. All are from the Windows version except the text one from DOSBox as the DOS version won't run in DOSBox or Windows. Take a look at these screenshots-this happens in many games now.[attachmentid=4110][attachmentid=4109][attachmentid=4108][attachmentid=4111]
EDIT: By the way, when it is on my screen parts of it are cut off. The screenshot program gets it all. I am in 1024x768 resolution. |

well to me it seems like the card (or drivers?!) switch to some 16 colour version. i mean you are having those rasters (dots) instead of nice shades. If it works normally in windows and with most programmes but somehow not in games then it could be that some setting got messed up a bit.

Aren't those screenshots of TFTD? <_<
I don't recognize the weapon... Anyhow, with graphics like that... It's either a driver, graphic card or monitor issue. Maybe a memory problem also, which would be why you have a memory problem with the DOS version... |
