im running windows xp, if i use vmware(which does emulate a computer - albeit a computer you have to set up from scratch), im usually running dos (either freedos or ms-dos 7.1) so they would technically be on different platforms (even if 1 is "virtual" aka dosbox and vmware) all dosbox is a emulator that comes set up with an operating system alredy "installed" vmware is an emulator in that same respect except that vmware requires you install a operating system onto the virtual hardware yourself

edit - im no programmer so i would have no clue how to optimize it. i'd optimize it if i knew how to code/program but i don't so i am unable to optimize it.

that still doesn't say a thing about how the code is executed.

both the host (winxp) and the target(freedos) is x86 code.
So vmware virtualizes the instructions. which is much faster.

it can be compared to the dynamic mode of dosbox (core=dynamic) of dosbox.

as you are no programmer how can you claim then that dosbox is unoptimised!

Remember that you needed a highend 486 to emulate a snes in asm (which runs at 3.87 Mhz)
so if you want to emulate a 33 mhz machine (with portable code) a 2 ghz machine is very reasonable requirement.

vmware doesn't emulate if you the target machine and the host are the same platform.
it virtualizes then.

Compare dosbox to bochs if you want a real emulator vs a real emulator.

But if you are so unhappy about why not optimize it yourself.
LOL LOL LOL

Good one Data, but wrong. Even if systems are the same, it's still emulation, same as DOSBox, WinUAE,.... Emulating of hardware. Only difference is that DOSBox also emulates software.

How can he optimize DOSBOx?
