I'm just working on assembling an almost perfect DOS Pc.
Now I'm wondering about what software to use.
Any recommendations are welcome!
My current software would be:
FreeDOS as the OS
SHSUCDX as CD-Expansion
Cutemouse as mouse driver
EMM386 for Memory Management
ATAPICDD as CD driver

If anyone should know any better alternatives, please
feel free to suggest them. Or post your configuration!

hmm, I have no Idea what freedos is like but normal dos is cheap of ebay.. it may be better I dunno

also.. get windows... windows 3.1 makes using the PCs a whole lot easier and can be picked up cheap for free. I actually found a site suppling windows 3.11 as a download obviously thats extremley illegial so I wouldnt do that...
i got dos and 3.1 off a relative who worked for ICL once.

"Normal" DOS? Would that be Q-DOS/MS-DOS, DR-DOS, PC-DOS, PTS-DOS, one of the newer free DOSes?

FreeDOS is free, open source, reliable, more up-to-date, and has better hardware support. There's no reason to track down whatever "normal DOS" you're talking about.

Get windows 3.1 and a dos menu with a dos menu you can run dos stuff easier if it does not work in windows 3.1 eg dos game's. With 3,1 you can get winzip 16bit anduse it for games of abondonia and other things.

Just get Norton Commander instead of Win 3.11. Norton Commander give you the filesystem and can open archives and more for you all in Dos.
