Try to change the core from "dynamic" to "normal".

With your configuration, Privateer works fine in my computer...

Maybe you have EMS actived on your priv.exe file? Set to 0 the EMS on that file and try. Otherwise, write your problem in Dosbox site: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net or see in VOGONS: http://vogons.zetafleet.com

No, EMS must be false or the game won't work

I don't know, but if you set "true" for EMS the game doesn't work

Well, here is the technical guide to privateer (the cd version), and it indicates that you need EMS to run it. It may not work to set EMS to true, but it's worth a try (and it ought to work).

It seems you're right about the ems. Sorry. I did find a couple of things that might help, though.

1) How do you start the game? Don't start it by dragging PRIV.exe onto the dosbox icon, but start from DOSbox itself.

2) One guy mentioned that the changes to his config didn't kick in until he restarted his computer. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Beyond that I couldn't find anything on the VOGONS forums, which as samtam90 says, is probably the best place to find information about this.

Well, i think VOGONS is the best site if you have problems with old games. For privateer, i really have no other solutions. The error is very strange, but it seems there is something similar in the posts in Dosbox site.
