Actually I changed my team to the following:
1 Stormtrooper = Ethereal with HE autocannon 2 light scouts = sectoids with mines and magnum (magnum has high damage for low cost and mines block ways) 1 heavy scout = snakeman with mine, laser rifle and smoke gren ( can fight if necessary and not only die. His armour allows him to survive the first shoot nearly always) 1 heavy artillery = floater with rocket launcher and plasma knife (2 x small rocket, 1 x heavy rocket) 1 sniper = floater with laser sniper Tactic: Since I noticed that EVERYBODY likes to rush wildly into the enemys territory it is an easy game with such a team. The point is that people who tend to use high armoured troops are easy to flank because the have less man in the field(mostly). Thats the purpose of the ethereal. sniper and artillery stand at back in high level and move at last every turn. Scouts block paths redirecting the enemy, preventing the enemy from flank attacks and flanking by themselves. Mostly I use one scout as a bait. And NEVER attack through the central way. I changed my sniper to laser cause it is enough to melt down the flying armour. The rockets do not only do a lot of damage but the smoke prevents the enemy from seeing you (and the scouts who spotted them can hide during that time). Everybody likes to use exploding weapons and everybody has at least one guy with an autocannon HE in his team. Problem-> its hard to hit with that weapon directly from middle or great distances, so flying units are mostly recommended because the bullets cant hit anything in the air except the unit gives a lot more chances to survive. The mines: if somebody is using them he or she should train a little with them first. Im using them all the time and still it sometimes happens that I forget about the ceiling and end like sitting with one scout in front of my own mine :/ but believe me, I won a lot of games only through the mines. In the end people tend to forget about them (u never should!) and when its up to 1v1 and finding the enemy, they nearly always stumble upon one that was left. Also recommended: throw them where they cant be seen, around corners or place them in front of entrances to buildings from ur side hehe In my first match (tournament one) I lost to Nontech because I hit him a lot of times but my weapons were doing to low damage. That changed and never forget that even if the flying armour guy is still alive, after a hit with a laser sniper or missile he will be injured and wont hit anything with his autocannon directly anymore (flying units again). That was all. Nontech wondered why I could shoot 2 times in one turn with my rocket launcher. Actually one was in his turn rocket launchers dont take much time to shoot and reload instead magnetic fusion ones or gren launchers. But gren launchers give u the opportunity to have more ammo. The ammo point is why the rocket guy has a knife. After he shoot his ammo he changes to a flying scout and starts to look for a nice weapon from somebody whos dead ok. Thatss it. Puhhhh |

Won twice with Patrone and lost once (as he mentioned above). All matches were nice
It would be nice if someone updated statistics in first post. Last edited by Intri; 12-09-2008 at 04:09 PM. |

Ok, I will analyse the replay , thanks.
I now switched to 3 mutons as main force, 2 floaters (scouts) all 5 with plasma rifles, then the cowardly sectoid is at the back, loaded with 1 HE big missile. So far this team's been doing a bit better than the others, but I think the opposition matters as well. And your idea of sniper and missile launcher guys being flyers is not bad, but I don't think I can have enough cash for that. I really don't like using sectoids, they're just too weak (no armour). Here's an open win against Fuel chat. |
