Recently Installed a 3.2EGhz P4 cpu (had a 2.4Ghz P4 socket 478 @800mhz fsb). My mobo bios is version 28, all drivers updated and recent, cmos was cleared properly. Windows boots fine. Can run movies fine and do everything from web browsing to playing cds in windows. When I start a game however, even old ones from 1996 the system will crash shortly into the game. Menus from games like Doom3, FEAR,... will work, but as the game starts it shuts off entire PC, and I have to disconnect the power supply, refresh the caps, and then it will turn back on.
I have checked thermal readings, and the cpu doesn't go above 55C, my 2.4 was overclocked to 3Ghz, and it ran great at a max of 68C. My X800XT AIW card is at default settings. Reinstalled windows with updates and all drivers and still have the same problem. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I guess it's a hardware problem, since you reinstalled everyting.
Or have a serious compatibility problem.

i would say ram, or graphic card...

It's probably the motherboard that's the source, obviously graphics card is in conflict with some other device...

The drivers could also be the problem. The "new and improved" versions have the exact same problem XP have; bad or no compatibility whatsoever with older programs.

There might be an issue with the overheat prevention systems on the mobo. Heard that sometimes people get damaged ones that over-react heavily.

My own machine used to BSOD every half an hour or so - without any particular reason. Then, suddenly the problem disappeared. I never knew what it really was.

So, BSOD happens. Don't worry.

Power supply unit doesn't bring enough power to the system. so when all addons begin working with high intensity (such as in games) computer shuts down due to overheating.

try with more powerfull PSU.

I've had this problem also the olny way to fix it is to REINSTALL WINDOWS it worked for me.

Why....Windows has not found out what kind of hardware it is and it will not unless you Reinstall Windows.

He already did that, and the problem stayed.
