Default Grime - The Revenge of the MOLD

The memories of this game are lodged so far back in my brain, the only way I could be sure it even existed was its listing on this site.

It's a DOS-8088 game, with sub-Paratrooper graphics.

From what I remember, it was pretty manic. The screen gradually filled up with the MOLD, which was basically made up of patterned blocks, intent on swallowing you up. Once completely surrounded, the game was lost.

I can't quite remember how you destroyed the MOLD, but I recollect spades, hearts, diamonds and club symbols flying across the screen, wiping away anything they came into contact with (including the player).

Such a shame I threw all my 5.25" floppies away all those years ago.

Don't worry, we didn't forget your topic, but the only evidence of its existence that I've found is the same link that you gave me.
If I find something else I'll let you know.

I remember Grime well! I registered to reply, looking for it. :P
It was ASCII-based, your player/cannon was an up-arrow, the Yen symbols would rain down at high speed and seed the Grime, covered with a crust of dithered squares. When you shot though the crust, the Grime (big asterisks) would pour out, and chase you if you were foolish enough to move instead of just blasting them through the hole you made.
The card-suit symbols would scramble the grime and spread it as they ran across the screen.

I played this on my grandfather's Visual Commuter "portable" IBM clone and amber monochrome monitor.
Has this classic been lost to time?
