i have win 98.could anyone tell me how to free up some conventional mem? i have about 600 free.would i have to do this manually or are there any DECENT free programs i could download to do so?

600KB? That is a lot and I doubt you will get the other 40KB free.

how about freeing up memory in DOS under win 98? By the time i have loaded all my drivers it has gone down to around 550, and then some dos games refuse to run?

Set drivers to use upper memoty block instead of conventional.

This depends on what you mean by "under DOS". Back when I had Win98 I had a dual boot and I would recommend you do the same. You need to do some editing of the Config.sys and autoexec.bat files. Do some searching on the internet on how to set it up (cause I, for the life of me, don't recall how to do it).

I always had to use Boot disks to get games to run (mostly dos games that needed a lot of mem).
I used to use Quemm or something to manage my memory wonce I got Win95 and I didn't have to use boot disks anymore.

you have 600KB free??? that's about as good as it gets... i only can get 570KB free
