I loved how diverse the AI was and interesting. Bots would try to gang up on you and hide behind corners, peeking with their gun arm. Plus the fact it was really 3D, no up.

When I just run the .BAT file, the man tells me what to do, then he says "prepare to Descent" and it stops working, when I run it in DosBox, it's really, really slow. I Have a Windows ME 860 Mhz, 32 MB video card and 256 RAM. What am I doing wrong?

I really LOVED this one - the single play was okay, but we threw a BNC network cable from the roof of my house to that of a friend of mine and connected a third one with a cable running under water, and this game ROCKED in multi-player!

Literaly the first computer game I ever played was the Descent shareware, and it was fantastic. Descent Freespace (and now Freespace 2) was also the best space fighter sim I've ever played.

I liked this one too, but it did get repetitive.

Question

I remember playing this game as a little kid, and wanted to try it again, but it runs so slow for me on DosBox. I use Windows XP. Can someone give me some good settings in either the game setup or the dosbox.conf text file? thanks.

Press F12 to increase the cpu cycles to around 8000-10000 and you shoud have no problems anymore. Descent runs very fast in DosBox, for sure.

Or ask uncle google for 3dx (or something like that) patch (maybe "loader" is better word) -so you don't have to use dosbox (it loads with music & sounds too)

Only disadvantage is that you won't see cocpit  or how it is spelled k:
