Never really been experienced with alterations to game files aside from no-CD rips, but I've been meaning to rip the audio files from Diablo. Any advice on how to properly go about this endevour?

There is a program called MPQViewer. Simply explained, it can gut the MPQ archive and extract its content to anywhere on your HDD.

The very same program can also be used to extract files from Hellfire expansion, also Starcraft and its Brood War exp. A newer version might possibly work with Diablo II MPQ's as well.

BTW, which audio files are you trying to get and what for? You don't have to answer if you don't want to.
