One of the biggest joys of my first days of PC gaming. Just consider it's age.. awesome!

I played the IIgs version which had good sound and music for the time. I'm not sure how the PC version compares. I'm assuming the sound and audio isn't as good since I imagine it comes from the PC speaker.

The graphics and sound improve tremendously when the game is run in Tandy mode. Try setting "machine=tandy" in DOSBox' configuration file. Then, you get 16 colour graphics and 3-voice music (which doesn't cut out when you fire).

Sierra came out with a windows remake of this game that did look and sound much better. That may be what you remember.

Uhm, uhm, it is EGA. But it also has CGA, Tandy, PCjr, tweaked EGA and MCGA graphics. PCjr is not displayable in DOSBox for a not-only-PCjr game (you have to go for Tandy). Tweaked EGA is probably not fully supported by DOSBox. MCGA is only addressed in VGA mode in DOSBox and only if the game lets you choose it manually or when there is no other VGA graphics.
The attachments are - in this order - CGA, EGA, Tandy. Or perhaps you meant Firehawk?

Thanks guys. Having d/led and played the game now i see the only difference is the screenshots attached to the review of this game seem to be limited to blue and red. There is of course a bit more colour and shade variation in the game itself. But thanks to the suggestions as im now going to check out Firehawk and the Win version of Thexder
