I've found an online NES emulator with about 575 games on it! It's made with Java, so it can be run from your browser
 Off course NES emulators exist for playing this stuff offline, but I though this new version has its charm!http://www.virtualnes.com/ |

No, writing emulators is not illegal, afaik. The emulation is not. Distributing ROMs you don't own the copyright of IS illegal.
