Also, it doesn't seem to matter what the cost or the skill level of the troop is- you will lose just as many 2000 gp elves as 500 gp fighters. Not 100% sure about the different skill levels (standard, veteran, and elite) but I think you lose the same no matter the skill level too.

keyboard battle
Does anyone know if there is a way of fighting the battles using only the keyboard and/or mouse instead of a joystick? I mean for movement purposes, not the function key uses explained in the manual. I have noticed pressing on the "A" key makes your selected leader go to the left, but so far that's the only one I've found; but I've only been in a couple of battles so far.
Interesting game. |

The manual is without gaps.

Thanks, Luchsen. I decided to check out the photos about 30 minutes after I posted and found them. :embarassed:Should the Num Lock be on or off? Didn't seem to work either way when trying to use keypad as defender. I am using DosBox 0.75 @ 10,000 cycles and frame skip 2 for normal play, but reduced to 0 for combat. However, combat still goes WAY to fast for my old hand-eye coordination. Any suggestions? By the way I don't own a joystick. Gave it away years ago when I started to concentrate solely on strategy games.

Try using DOSBox' keymapper to remap the keys.
As for the combat speed, try something in the range of 3000 to 5000 cycles. |

I played this in the 90's and still have the disk, and glad to see you are finding ways to make it work again. I am running vista and need to know if I should download dosbox before running the game, or just skip my cd and download everything from this site. Any info will help.
Also If I remember correctly there is a cheat code for having unlimited money and magic. Makes for a wild game if you want to take a level 1 against 12's + on the first campaign. What I don't remember is if your character needed the name or if the game just needed to be saved as, And I think the name was either Ed Ward or Jim Ward. |

This game also had a carry over affect on me when I started playing online poker a little over a year ago. My site names are things like ELF-M, Elite Elf, Shadow ELF, and a few variations depending on if you could use spaces or hyphens in your name selection.

Just DOSBox will be sufficient - make sure to read the readme, some things are different from actual DOS.
If you have any problems, check the step-by-step guides in Troubleshooting forum's Tutorials subsection. |
