I liked the opening too I don't really like sports or dancing (or men in tight suits :P), but that futuristic outfit that that dancer wore was really nifty!

Au Contraire, there are too many sports in summer olympics, you don't get to see any of them, the only good competitions are athletics, gymnastics (and maybe handball), if you look at soccer per example, they don't even care for the olympics...

Hah! and what about boxing, judo, fencing, hockey on grass, basketball, watepolo???

the soccer is different storry. older players are not allowed to compete so that Olympics wouldn't take away the value of WC. thats' why only 2 or 3 older players are allowed to compeete in olympics. and mostly it's countries youth teams that go there. i bet they care.

It used to be like that with Olympic Basketball as well. But there really are too many sports in the summer games.

I mean just try to follow the rowing, fencing, horse-riding, dechatlon, synchronised diving, handball and tennis at the same time. Too much.

I'm wondering why don't they move some events to the winter olympics (handball and basketball are indoor sports anyway - and there's no real difference if they're played in the summer or in winter)?

Well, the opening ceremony hasn't anything to do with sports really. It was just a grand galla event (with an unusual amount of 80s disco songs while the athlets were marching to the arena  - I mean, I liked it, but the choice was some-what odd).

but i´m with you i love Handball, but we have Baskt, and a lot more, i love games with a ball, gim i don´t like......

And if some sports like Sebastianos said go to winter olympics they will die, because the winter games have very little people watching the games, i think they some day will finish....
