Hi!
Considering buying Fallout + Fallout 2. Will they work with XP? I've heard that Fallout 1 only works with windows 95/98. Also I downloaded the demo before and it wouldnt work... launched then frooze at a black screen. Any help appreciated.. I really want theese games and can pick them up for between ?5-?15 .. will they work?

Hmm.. I am still confused.
Fallout 2 is supposed to work fine... however on e-bay some sellers claim that fallout 1 run on 95/98 only.. Others claim it runs on XP... fecking hell.

I suppose that if it doesn't run on XP there are some patches that enable it to run on it...

Fallout 2 runs fine straight off XP for me.
Fallout took a bit of jiggery-pokery to work but "I think) by runnnig the .bat file straight from the directory it worked. I also tried DOSBox but waaaaaaaaay too slow. |

It runs on XP fine, both of them.
I should know, I own every Fallout (Including the console one) and the PC ones all work fine.

Strange, because I also have both, and Fallout 2 works great, yet Fallout comes up with "Not compatible with this version fo Windows" on Windows 2000, and on XP it does the black-screen.
Edit: If you can't even get Fallout 1 to install on XP, you may wanna try the 2000 "fix" this'll also help all who can't get it installed on 2000/NT (I didn't write this) How to install Fallout 1 on Windows 2000 or NT Win2K or NT users need to make a manual installation of the game and since Win2K and NT have almost identical core, the installation procedure is the same for both versions and here are the steps for it: Before you start, make sure you have at least NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 on your machine. 1. Assumming that your CD-ROM drive letter is "D" and your HD letter is "C", first, create a folder for your game called fallout (ie C:\games\fallout) then copy D:\program\win\falloutw.___ to the folder you created and rename it to falloutw.exe. 2. Now you have four choices, depending on the installation size you want: Small Installation: Do not copy anything else. Medium Installation: Copy D:\master.dat to your fallout folder (ie C:\games\fallout) Big Installation: Copy D:\master.dat and D:\critter.dat to your fallout folder. Humongous Installation: Copy D:\master.dat then D:\critter.dat and after that, copy the entire D:\data folder to your fallout folder. 3. Create a text file in C:\games\fallout called fallout.cfg and add the following lines to it, depending on your installation: Small Installation: [system] master_dat=d:\master.dat critter_dat=d:\critter.dat [sound] music_path2=d:\data\sound\music free_space=0 Medium Installation: [system] master_dat=c:\games\fallout\master.dat critter_dat=d:\critter.dat [sound] music_path2=d:\data\sound\music free_space=0 Big Installation: [system] master_dat=c:\games\fallout\master.dat critter_dat=c:\games\fallout\critter.dat [sound] music_path2=d:\data\sound\music free_space=0 Humongous Installation: [system] master_dat=c:\games\fallout\master.dat critter_dat=c:\games\fallout\critter.dat [sound] music_path2=c:\games\fallout\data\sound\music free_space=0 And finally, make a shortcut to falloutw.exe file and you're done! |

Best thing I could advise is to set the install.exe to windows 95 or 98 compatibility. This helps save time unlike the above. It works perfectly and worked for me.
Wow, my 1000 post. Cooool. |

Congrats Troop!
Question answered... basically I just have to buy them now. If I experience any problems after I have installed them you'll hear me whine until then... Farewell!
