yeah the ps2 uses the controller.. and it IS terrible at dvd playback. i agree that getting a cheap dvd player is a better idea whichever console you had.

For DVDs, ps2 can play them with just a controller, XBox needs a special DVD remote for them.
Multiplayer: ps2 network is free (I beleive), XBox uses a subscription service to play online. Xbox is the more powerful of the two but with less games. But I would rather have a few good games than a bunch of crappy ones. I personally own an XBox and I love it, I actually got rid of my ps2 and got the XBox. |

Thanks everonye for the info so far. I'm still not sure which to pick, but your first-hand experiences shed some light the differences! I'll decide after the weekend

Get an XBox. Not only can you play XBox titles, but with the proper ISO, you can burn a fully functional Linux for XBox. The X-box has great hardware specs;
CPU: Intel Pentium III 733-MHz processor technology with streaming SIMD extensions Graphics processor: 233-MHz, custom-designed X-Chip, developed by Microsoft and Nvidia Total memory: 64MB of RAM (unified memory architecture) Memory bandwidth: 6.4GB/second Polygon performance: 150M/sec Sustained polygon performance (full features): 100M/sec Particle performance: 150M/sec Simultaneous textures: 4 Pixel fill rate, no textures: 4.8 G/sec (anti-aliased) Pixel fill rate, one texture: 4.8 G/sec (anti-aliased) Pixel fill rate, two textures: 4.8 G/sec (anti-aliased) Compressed textures: Yes (6:1) Full scene anti-alias: Yes Storage medium: 2X to 5X DVD, 8GB hard disk I/O: Four game controller ports, Ethernet (10/100) Audio channels: 256, AC3 encoded game audio 3D audio support: Yes Midi/DLS2 support: Yes Broadband enabled: Yes Modem enabled: No DVD movie playback: Yes Gamepad included: Yes Maximum resolution: 1920x1080 Maximum resolution (2x32bpp frame buffers + Z): 1920x1080 HDTV support: Yes As you can see, the xbox makes a excellent PC. There is no need for a mod chip or opening the case. I had my XBox running Doom3 using Cedega(wineX). It ran the game faster than my desktop PC. Good luck making your choice. |

A friend of mine studied his X-box. Then Added a 160gb harddisk in it. pumped up the circuits and stuff, made some alterations to it...and now plays Sega 16-bit games on his xbox and has all of his X-box titles on the harddisk, greatly improving loading times
Pimp my X-box |
