Default Steam Greenlight is now live

http://steamcommunity.com/greenlight

No comment yet

EDIT: Now I have some. Lots and lots of indies. I feel very indifferent about many of them.

On the discussion section, we have people asking for non-indie games, console games, old games, old console games and all that crap.

22 minutes in and someone already submitted a troll game. Goodie.

Someone posted up White Chambers, a freeware game, claiming that he's got the license which was lost when the developer studio closed down and is going to fix bugs and add new scenes. I really, really doubt that random Ukrainian bloke, especially when he can barely write in English.

Im yet to find a indie game out there that I'd really want to see on Steam (This one is actually interesting, basically because its Pro Wrestling), but eventually one will pop-up. Im also glad to see that not all are looking to make money with this, but are posting free-to-play games as well.

Looks a bit rubbish really. I guess I don't really see the point in it.

I voted for Project Zomboid, but I'd expect that to be sold in various places anyway (like Desura, GOG, Gamersgate).

Its to ease up the workload for Valve. They probably get hundreds of new submissions by day, so this helps them a bit to decide which games people would actually want to buy on Steam.

Surely it's just a different sort of workload? In fact you might argue it's just increasing the workload, but has the pay-off of bringing more people to Steam.

After all, they need people to run Greenlight, remove spam submissions and at the end of the day they still need to verify the submissions and go through whatever process/contracts that are required to put a game on the service.

So all of sudden TotalAnarchy and I decided to start a Tumblr called "Greenlight This" where we post games which have been submitted to Greenlight and that we like or seem to have that "something" which would make them good additions to Steam.

Nice job!

I was considering just ignoring Greenlight altogether, but your tumblr might just get me using the system.

I voted up and down all Greenlight yesterday.

Strange, but there are not much "distinctive" games here. I marked dozen of titles for me, but that's all. And half of that games already very familiar for me anyway - like TOME, UnEpic and Eador. Everything else either good polished games that I don't need, or vagues proofs of concepts that can be good, or can be not - it's too uncertain right now.

(That not stopped me to vote up 360 games, as it seems.

I've voted for a few more games, but generally they've been ones that I already know about, or are already available elsewhere (Gamersgate or Desura usually).

Interesting recent changes to it though, giving you 12 random games to view and vote on. I get the feeling the number of people voting will drop off a cliff, except in cases where a developer can rally people to vote.

Also lots of chatter about the $100 donation/fee for developers, which seems a little odd. Best article about it (that I've read) is here: http://www.jonas-kyratzes.net/2012/0...llar-question/
