Could be, but if the only issue is about EMS or XMS it's a nice to be able to run a game without Dosbox.

But there's still the matter of having no sound with Dos-games under Windows XP, so DosBox is better with this...

About the SOUND-part of this, it could also be a pure hardware-problem, where the system finds the games adressing invalid and just crashes over that issue also...

Have runb into that alot of times with games and emulators (amiga stands out there)..

tnx for the notice thou.. will help SOMEONE hopefully..

I think it would be a lot nicer if we didn't have to use DosBox, but not sure what we can do otherwise.

I don't know, I think it's neat that you figured out how to run certain games without DosBox, but in the long run it's simply not worth it. It takes like 20 minutes to download DosBox that's even with dial-up. Needless to say, dosbox takes a lil time to learn, but afterwards it's fairly straight forward...I've told people this before, if you need a decent dos program outside of dosbox try abondon loader, it's incredibly simply to install and run.

Even using Windows 98 on second partition of the hard-drive is not always better than DosBox, but sometimes, where DosBox fails, Windows 98 helps there (if you have old Soundblaster-series drivers for Dos, that is).

On my computer I run windows XP proffesional, and settlers 2 works good from start, I can run it under XP settings, no problems. But a very common problem with me, that not even DosBOX solved is having sound. I am gonna try run it under win95 settings, then see if I get sound.
I will post if its successful.
