The special edition of this game is actually better; excellent music, improved sound, and better cutscenes from the original animated movie. :O

How do I save?
Try 'o' for 'options' and 's' for 'save'.

If you're having trouble with freezing it's the music. Just go to SETUP and set the music and FX to Internal Speaker. Then Save and begin.

Doesn't even need DOS box!

Hi,

I have completely reverse engineered the data format and rewritten the game for Linux (but you may be able to compile for windows too). See
http://www.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~benes/lotr/
So, if you are interested in some cheats, goodies and solving all sidequests do not miss it.

Are you quite sure you're not thinking of another game? Interplay's Lord of the Rings was made in 1990, so the only 'film' available would have been that dreadful Bakshi (or however he spells his name) cartoon. And that wouldn't have gone too well with this game...

I'm quite sure. The remake of the Interplay LOTR1 had clips from the Bakshi movie, but also had other innovations (like a minimap) that made it easier and more fun to play.

Well, I don't think I've ever seen the CD version anywhere. I still have the floppy version which had that bug about the homicidal wall.

Yeah, there was a CD version with wonderful symphonic music throughout, animated clips from the early cartoon movies, and lots of sound effects. I've got it AND the two towers on CD.

Only problem is that it doesn't work very well in DosBox OR in VDMsound.
