You have right. But it is also myth that English is official language in the USA. In fact there is no official language in USA. And the question is: why is then English so dominant?
Basically because English is what Latin used to be: a lingua franca. I'd say this mainly has historical reasons (England was rather influential over the last couple of centuries and the growing importance of the US certainly played an important part as well). Today, the language is fairly widespread - not as widespread as Mandarin, perhaps, but it's somewhat easier to learn than Mandarin. Not quite as easy as most people think, perhaps, but at least it's comparatively easy to reach a level at which you're able to communicate with others.

Or did you mean why is English so dominant in the US? Well, whether they like it or not, they did start out as a bunch of British colonies, didn't they?*

(*Yes, I'm oversimplifying matters a bit here, but most of those colonies were British.)

actualy english gramar is harder thean average. and the alguage itself is mcuh harder than both hebrew and esperanto. the reason that it's widespread lies in the fact that brittain was one of the most advanced colonial powers, and USA (who inherited their language) were the most influential contries in XX century (plus it heps that they satrted the internet)

Now tell-me what is the more easyer to learn.
some language are more faster to learn , but they belong to small communitys and understand by little people , and are more difficulty to expand in the web.
