It's becoming a major wave to make fun of Shatner these days, is it not?

Well yea it's intentional, he's not exactly subtle about it. Most everyone can figure that out. I commend him for it though, and find the scenerio to be quite humourus. And yea, I have his old albums, I've never heard "has been" before though.

As for Common People, we performed the Shatner/Folds version at a school show. It was incredible.

this is so cool. shatner is the man, im glad he is being intentionally funny, i did wonder with his earlier spoken word stuff, like lucy in the sky with diomends.

Personally I'm a fan of America We Stand as One, which everyone probably has seen already.

It's easily the cheesiest music video I have ever seen, featuring everything from sunsets to firemen to angels to babies.
