So, does anyone ever play games without sitting in front of their computer? I do quite a lot with so a couple of friends. Most of the time we play the German games (Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Tyros etc.) but on occasion the other caterogries turn up! k:

EDIT: Can someone with power change the 3rd option from below to "I like all of the above". Thx!

Note: "Board"-games are NOT tabletop-games... that's the reason why one kind is called "board-" and the other "tabletop"-game...

I play both board- and tabletop-games (warhammer in the latter case). More than I play on my PC, actually...

You right. I also forgot the options 'Pen & Paper RPG' which I don't play myself... maybe a friendly neighbourhood admin can add that option as well... <sigh> I always press send to quickly</sigh>

I assume that by Catan you mean the Settlers of Catan, right? If that's the case my vote is for german-style games (it is in any case, since I already voted). Another great game I've been playing is A Game of Thrones, which is a bit similar in style.

Anyone played the Discworld-branded Thud boardgame? I bought it but have only played a couple of games, but it has the potential for some deep tactical play (maybe not quite as much as Go or Chess, but quite a lot!) - don't expect it to be a Discworld game along the lines of The Game of Life though!

For me, Chess for some deep tactics and skill, Backgammon for a nice balance of luck and skill, plus you can play for money.

I'd play Magic more often if I knew anyone who played

I play about all the games mentioned in the poll, tough not all at a regular basis.

It's always a good workout for the brain. k:

I just love Warhammer 40k (fun but really expensive hobby). I'm saving money to buy Chaos Space Marines Codex so that I could play against my friend.

Indeed, thet Settlers! Great game that is, especially with Cities and Knights extension

Ow, for everyone interested:

Boardgamegeek is a site for all Board Game (and most other non-computer games) freaks. You can keep track of your game collection, when you've played etc... Plus, it's a good resource if you're thinking about buying a game!
