I installed Thief 2, but when trying to run it (under XP sp2) I got the message I'd need the indeo codec. Now, of course I can buy that codec for slightly less than $15, but that really isn't an option (what's the idea of having to pay to play a game you already have?)

Ok, so I took the trip to google, and found this is an issue with Thief 2 and XP sp2. There were solutions, but there were too many of them and each of them cried out "NO! For the love of God, don't do that! Do this instead", leaving me utterly confused.

Anyone ever sorted this out with success? Please tell me what to do.

Well the obvious solution is to remove the Service Pack 2 as it's said to cause problems with many games and not so new programs. I never used SP2 and so I also never had any problem with Thief 1 or 2.

use windows 2000 if you have the time and diskspace.

My copy of thief 2 and the indeo codes on the CD, and during installation it asks if I want to install them.
yours doesn't...?

No, it didn't Apparantly, it has to do with xp in general. A new codec was released for xp, but the company charges you for it.

OK: I got what I needed, but I can't link the site for obvious reasons. Now, let's hope this is the right way to do it and the file isn't clogged with viruses.

If it's from the codecs creators site and you payed for it and it had viruses you would sue them well I would anyway.
