Wow, this thread mutates even faster than a virus!

About the alien thing, after reading "The martian chronicles", I don't think I want humanity to meet any extraterrestrial culture.

As for me - I dont give a s**t to aliens, if that's what are you talking about. If they want something of us - why they don't just simply come here and say hello, we are from planet blah-blah, and we say - hey, you had a long journey, come sit by fire...

I mean, if they think that we are dumb and animals or like that, then hell with them. We have plenty of problems here. And I myself don't know, why in movies and books aliens are described as little green peolpe with big eyes. Why you don't expect human-like race? If God created somebody out there, why He should create some little people than another humans, who won't violate His law as Adam and Eve did.

Sorry for lecture.

I think because our "welcome" might turn out a little bit...hotter than a small campfire. If you saw any of the USA Vs. Aliens movies you would know how our general reaction to visitors would look like.

They are not particularly interested in us, but the problem is, if we don't get interested in them (including deeper exploration into space and scientifical pursuit for the reason being) then our civilization will come to an effective halt earlier or later. You see, there's always some goal in existence / life. And what is the goal in our current civilization? Faster computers? Getting international terrorists to shut up? And what then? Boredom. Stagnation. Scarce resources, dying out nature and irritation of human against other human, which is ultimately a world war.
There has to be a new direction in our civilization, and that soon, because our civilization has already began to stagnate, the signs of which would be noticeable to anyone watching with attention.

Yes indeed, there have been absolutely no technological breakthroughs in the last 20 years.

I know this is off topic, but I would just like to state for the record that Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem was the worst film I've ever paid money to see. If we are anything like the humans in the movie, the aliens should nuke us.

I don't think there is a "goal" for any civilization, just individuals that try to be happy. And that search for happiness is what makes them act in a particular way, join in groups and try to achieve common objetives.

And about stagnation, I think this is the time of history with fastest developement in every subject. Maybe you aren't feeling it in your day to day life, but just take a look at how things are changing in countries such as China or India. Or how many technological advances have been in the last years.

About that film Lulu, well, I hope you didn't expect too much of that kind of sequel for that kind of film...
