Game runs REALLY slowly when waiting for the computer to take its turn
the hour glass takes for ever even at the start of the game, any fixes?

There is an option feature that allows you to set computer's movement speed. THe faster it is the faster the turn ends. So use gallop or some other fast horse movement to increase speed of computer turns.

Wow, it is still a myth. You will need an Advanced Intelligence attribute in your hero.

One of the best games ever, the later in the series, other than the second, are all much worse than this game, got every HoMM game out there as well as King's Bounty and this is the best. Campaign is difficult at first but once u get used to it its easier, + depending on which race u choose u dont have to fight that race at end, so hint for campaign is be barbarians because their map is hardest to win. HF with this game all.

i am just writing here cause one of you people mentioned that HOMM1 is only for DOS. well i checked my disks again and it clearly states there that it was made to be compatible with WIN 95. and you know what that means. if it's compatible with WIN95 it shouuld also be with WIN 98 and probably even 2000 & XP.

I see a lot of people having problems starting up the downloaded HOMM. Maybe it's time to upload a WIN 95 version....

That is the most incorrect statement I've ever seen. Something that works on Win95 doesn't necessarily work on Win98, 2000, XP. Most (if not all) DOS games work on Win95, specially since you can "restart in dos mode", so that's probably why the HOMM1 box mentions it's Win95 compatible.
However, the more Windows evolves, the less compatible it is with DOS games. In Win98 most still work, though on Win2000/XP it's very unlikely without use of utilities. In the best odds you'll just lose sound output.

well all i know my version of HOMM works on 95, 98 and 2000.

Edit: to be more precise it says: Designed for Microsoft Windows 95.

Oh and system requirements are Dos 5.0 OR WIN 95 (cause there was no win 98 at that time)
