Hi guys !
I just wanted to tell you that some german fans are doing a remake called burntime 2047 which should be ready in some months.. it could interest those that speak german. I have told them I could try to translate their remake so that french and english fans can also have fun with it .

So if you speak german, check this out : www.burntime.org
there's a thread called "burntime 2047- burntime 2" and that's where the developpers (mainly a guy called mavado)* discuss and give infos concerning their remake.
Any news about Burntime 2 being translated? It would be great if somebody could do it.

Hi all!

I had the burntime fever last couple of days after not having played for ages!
It was so cool, and I just won the thing *yeeehah*.

I actually came here looking for more assembly recipes for my mechanics, but it seems there are no more.

Still here are some things that I found helpful, maybe one thing or the other is help for someone else too.
In the end, there will be some questions that came up to me.

First an overwiew of food you can produce:

Maggots --> 1 man, no tools: 1 DR // 1 man 1 knife: 2 DR // 2 men 1 knife: 3 DR
Rats --> 1 Trap 3 DR // 2 Traps 4 DR
Snakes --> 1 Basket 3 DR // 2 Baskets 5 DR
Meat --> 1 Trap 5 DR // 2 Traps 7 DR

- Knife for farming maggots has to be lying around in one of the huts/tents/caves .
- 3 or more traps of the same type will do no change
- only one type of food can be farmed (!)at a time(!). If there are different trap types in one camp, you can switch productions via the info screen when stock is full - very nice because you don't have to be there.
- look nicely after your camps: Whenever your there, put any food of the "home type" from stock to the outside. There can only be six of the "home type" food in stock, but as many as you like lying around (works only in single player, otherwise this works as a self-service-shop for your opponent).
- whenever a merchant is around, go see him and give him plenty of what lies around. You'll have enough and more is being produced all the time.
- Fill well rooms with all kinds of bottles. You can never have too much. Empty containers will be filled until next time you're around, and then you only change bottles: take full one, place empty one. If you have a full bottle with you but you are thirsty, you just drink from the bottles standing around until you say 5 DR. Cheers! (note: containers won't get filled when water DR of the base is equal to number of men there)

About water pumps:

They will not increase every water supply, think carefully where you put them:
the small one does 3 DR, the big one 6, but (!) note these are NOT extra DRs.
Means that the small one is only of any use in locations that run less than 3 DR of water (and there aren't many). Put the small pump in a 3 or more water DR location and it will do nothing.
Anyway, I think _packing_ a well room with (empty) containers is far better (and cheaper) than installing pumps. Cause if the room can't hold the water, it will be gone whenever you're around - be it 3 or 6 DR. With loads and loads of containers, no drop is wasted. Cheers again.

For comfy travelling:

Put up a nice network of neatly looked after bases. It should be golden rule that the camp gives an overproduction of whatever type of food it does, so the table is always ready when big boss comes around. Yummie!
This plus the water container thing will have you travel nice and easy with light luggage, even with large parties.
Food overproduction will be there whenever the number of men is at least 1 less than food DRs produced. That also means, think carefully how many soldiers you put where.
Exeptions from the overproduction rule might only be _really_ unimportant little dead end bases (put one guy there to gnaw his 1 DR of maggots, don't even give him a weapon - no one will ever notice he's there at all) OR frontline bases under heavy attack. Here it will sometimes be nessecary to e.g. send in a 4th guy even if you only have 4DR of rats. You'll remember to bring your own food when travelling there, and maybe you can improve food production here later, or pull back the last guy when times are more peaceful.

Make it on your own:

Travel alone whenever possible. Be only accompanied when necessary, e.g. when taking your hirelings from one place to another, or when escorting the badly injured to doc and back. You might be surprised how little food and water you need when you're alone. Little shopping tours can even be taken without any supplies, or only a little water, so you have plenty of room in your inventory for trading stuff.
BTW you don't need to carry a weapon all the time, it will only waste a precious slot.

Time heals (all) wounds:

I read above there are several "opinions" as to healing.
Actually, it's easy as that:
70%+ --> wounds heal automatically, makes no difference whether you're travelling or at base
50%+ --> wounds heal automatically when a doctor is around (in your party while travelling or at base with wounded hirelings)
less than 50% --> you have to see the doc in town.

You want to have your 50+ wound cured by your own doc, that would mean you must stay in camp with him and have some days pass, or take the guy with you for some time. I personally think both alternatives are pain, so I rather like to see a city doc when hurt below 70%.
Plus, you are in no hurry: your main char will never be surprise attacked (dogs and mutans don't count, they do only scratches). If you always look carefully after your food and drink stats (which you always do anyway), nothing will happen.

When it comes to attack:

Of course, have someone to do the dirty work. Plus, never attack as a group, rather one by one. Give the (best) weapon to the best soldier, let him do his work until he reaches the health limit you planned for him (70+ if you want him to stay in the base after fight, less if you plan to see a doc with him). Then let him hand the weapon to the next soldier or if you like, finish yourself.
Very important!!: when using a gun, check ammo after EVERY single hit, cause even a stupid mechano will kill your best soldier when he's running around with an empty gun.

Problems with killiing computer opponents

To be honest, I don't have a recipe for this. Sometimes I have the goddamn portrait trapped and he goes on killing my best men though he long has no more bases. Sometimes he is obviously doing nicely, but somehow gets into trouble when entering one of my medium camps, and I get the "xyz has died" screen totally to my surprise.
The only thing I can say, if a trap won't work for some reason, that is you got him trapped for turns and turns and he goes on fighting, it is often a good idea to "let him free" (donate one or two not too important bases if you have to) and try again somewhere else. I'm not sure if this might be a bug, but sometimes the ******s just won't die.

Home sweet home

One last thing I found very nice: Look around carefully and make one very nice location your home base. It should be a place able to supply meat and be close to a city, preferably only two days distance so you can travel to and fro without carrying supplies.
Have your mechanic be at home here, and dump any parts and useful stuff in one room. He will be happy and you have control about what you got and what you need.
(I did so mainly because I hoped to find new things to build, but sadly there don't seem to be any more *sniff*)
Whenever you're around, you can pack your bag with meat and go see the merchants in town. You'll be there and back in no time.

MISUNDERSTANDINGS

Lastly, this is about (common) misunderstandings.

- The color of a hireling has nothing to do with his skill. Colors are random as long as they are neutral, and will change to their flag's color when folks are hired.
- The portraits of hirelings are random also
- Also, the type of stuff they want is, at least thats what I experienced, not really an indicator for their skill. When hiring, it's often worth trying to empty all meat out of your bag and first try with snakes. Often the same guy wants meat if you have some, but a snake is fine if thats best you have. I must say I never hired people who wanted things like protection wear or stuff, but I can say I hired 72% fighters for rats or snakes. I admit though that I always save before hiring and try out all the guys available. *tongue*
- It is often recommended to place docs in frontline bases to heal the wounded. I tried that long time, but I too often found the poor guys were the first and easiest killed. I now prefer to have docs in "2nd row" bases and pull soldiers there after battles, replacing them by fresh men from the "doc camps".
- Misunderstanding? At least I think so: it may be a wild theory but I think the radio doesn't do anything.

Ok, here is the very very last advice, I admit it's very kiddylike but maybe it's good for NEW STARTERS: start with both human players and keep starting until you have a nice starting postion: you and your "alter ego" may be close, the other two as far away as possible. It also helps when 3 and 4 are close to each other, as long as they are far from you. First turn with your "fake" player, have him move to a town near you and drop all his stuff. Then let him die (move around to a poisonous place or just move around without supplies). This way, you have one opponent less, plus the extra knife and bottle will come in handy for a start. Plus, if you're lucky, players 3 and 4 keep fighting each other while you make yourself at home in your half of the map, it will take a good while before they even take notice of you. *g*

Now, here's to my own questions:

1.) is this a bug?: I noticed I can't trade with the same merchant two times in a row. When I select the second deal it will say OK and show green light, but nothing will happen when I click on the "deal ok" line. You had that problem?

2.) when I place a soldier in a location with no food production possible, how do I equip him with food so that he survives? Must it be in his inventory, or will it be ok if food is at stock there?

3.) annoying problem in one of the radioactive locations - the one in the east of the map, might be called "the factory" (German version is "Fabrik").
There is one building/ruin with 4 or 5 doors and a strange kind of "front porch" that you have to walk on to get to the entrance in the back. You can access that damn "porch" only from one side and the one accessible entry is all at the end.
Now the problem: call me stupid but I never manage to get there. I tried for hours, gently clicking pixel by pixel, but somewhere half the way the stupid ****** always starts runing around and leaving that porch thing.
Did anyone ever make it to the entrance or is it really impossible (yea I want to hear that)?

That's all for now.
Oops, this has become long.... but I was so happy to find folks who share my weird passion *gg* My husband kept laughing at me while I played these days. Actually, he already laughed at me 10 years ago when I first showed him this great game! Ach, poor guy he knows no better. *tongue*

See you guys,
Love Betty

PS
Sorry for my English

Your help is excellent and so is your English, Betty

Thanks a lot for that, I was finding the game a bit hard before, but it's ok now.

@betty

1.) i didnt had that bug could trade with city or random trader serveral times in a row.

2.) it needs to be in his/her inventory, food in a building don`t work.

3.) just take a rope in your inventory and you can enter the building ;p (same with a upper cave in caves)

Did anyone else know that you can sell water? If you sell a bottle or canteen (or probably any water-carrying item) to the bar or restaurant, you get additional value equal to the quantity of water carried. I think this works with trading as well. Since water is fairly plentiful in the game, this could be important in early trades, since maggots are worth the same as the water carried in a bottle. Also, buying empty containers is cheaper, I think. Though, usually you don't get much choice in buying items.

Having a lot of fun with this game.

I've killed off all three CPU opponents, I've got a cave in Snake Hill filled with junk, and I'm wandering around with a doc in tow and three protection suits total. Problem is, I can't find the broken radio anywhere. Is it placed randomly, or am I at luck's end and an opponent sold it off for food before I did them in?

Oh yeah, forgot to add;

Gold isn't useless. You can trade it in at restaurants/diners/bars for what seems to be an infinite amount of food or drink. Using one gold bar shows as zero daily rations of food, but I tried accepting anyways (I was desperate that first time, three people, no food at all), and it gave everybody 9 daily rations. Same with drink, fills everyone up.

I haven't tried with other useless items like bones or the skull (bible gives only 1 day's worth, I checked), but I think it's safe to assume that if it shows up as 0, it actually counts as infinite (or 255, or 16383, or whatever passed for the maximum memory back then. Kid Radd all over again).

I think I've been wandering around trying to find the radio for about 350 days now, I'm on my way to completing my fifth and sixth protection suits (just need gloves).

1 more problem to solve, but im afraid its a bug.

when i look in the info about what is stored at a location, thers some stuff i cant find in any building at that location. i scanned the area with the mouse pointer to b sure not to miss a rock which could b some kind of hidden building (like some wells at a rock) but found nothing.

anyone else had that experience?
