Question Might and Magic 9 worth playing?

So I came across a Book sale today...
Besides good old books, they were selling some games.

I got Rollercoaster Tysoon 2, and Might and Magic IX.

However I'm not to familiar with the M&M series, and a quick look online seems to indicate the the IX is the worst of the bunch...

So should I play it, or would it be a bad introduction series?

I frankly don't know but I played a few of this series and I'd be interested that you keep up to date with your experience.

From what I've heard its actually worthwhile. It just had a bad luck of being released around the same time as Morrowind.

It is nice to have and play, just don't expect it to be fantastic. M&M 6 back in the day along with Baldur's Gate revived the dying RPG genre, but then 3DO started to quickly make sequels. M&M 7 improved on the predecessor a lot, but the eigth was only a quick cash in with minor changes and a very old engine. Writ of Fate changed that with a new shiny engine, but last time I played it it felt a bit more like Wizardry 8 then a new M&M game. But YMMV, so go ahead.
