Doom puzzles me a little. It didn't define the genre. There were FPS games before it. It did popularize the genre, however. Maybe they selected it because of the advances that it brought in game engine technology.

Have to agree with Zork wholeheartedly.

I think the first game to use the point and click interface (as opposed to text parsing) should be in there. That changed gaming a lot.

"Sensible World of Soccer"??? I've never even heard of that one!

Have to agree whole-heartedly with Zork, Tetris, and SimCity, though. I can't even begin to count the number of hours I've spent on those. Also Doom, though I never played it until later (late 1990s).

Yeah i suppose they mean Sensible Soccer - which was good, but hardly the first soccer game (for example Kickoff series started in 89). Spose they were reaching for a sport themed game. Maybe because it was so customisable?

*Edit*
Just researched, Sensible World of Soccer was a sequel to Sensible Soccer. Never played it though so cant comment on its gaming world impact. Its the only one ive never heard of though.

sensibile soccer was quite good for it's time.

things it had included replay and slomo replay, it also had highlights that could be saved (not found in today's soccer games) !!! and watched later. highlights were created automaticly.

also it was quite customizable. you could change the players shirts, names, name of coach... but you couldn't change their skills.

another interesting feature were various surfaces such as dry, mud icy, normal, wet. dont' know how this was in games previous to it.

the game also featured some leagues, cups (WC, EC) which were also cutomizable.

it had many features and i used to play it a lot back then. minly cause it's simple. controler includes 4 direction keys and i key for kick and all other actions.

Definatley not. And it really bugs me when people try to make a top ten games "ever". There are so many opinions. It is practically impossible for an agreeable to ten. Only ever a partly agreeable.

I think LucasArts beat Sierra to the punch. SCUMM engine if I remember correctly.

I absolutely agree. I couldn't ever whittle it down to ten. All I could say is something like "C&C should be in there somewhere" etc. As for the remark about Doom not defining the fps genre, I agree. I'd say Dark Forces is the one that defined the modern fps.
