When I renew my cell phone subscription I get to choose between an XBox and a PS/2 as a gift. Which one should I choose? Which has the best games? I've been reading a bit on the www, but those articles I read didn't help much. Since I'm a Nintendo man myself I'm pretty much biased against both consoles, but now that I can get one for free...

ow... the pressure is giving me a headache

the ps2 has hands-down the best games for it. also it will hold its value a lot better than an xbox. just consider how much older the ps2 is than the xbox already, but theyre the equal choice in this deal!

It all depends on what do you want to do with it and what kind of games you like to play.

If you into RPG, definitely get PS2. If you in to modding and emulation, then get X-Box. (There is DOSBox for XBox )

Can an Xbox play DVDs? If it doesn't, the choice's quickly made in favour of the PS2 (game console and can play DVD movies :w00t: )

Both can play DVD's and both cannot do so straight out of the box. You will need to buy extansions for both consoles. X-Box is technically the superiour console but it is the games that matter the most. Playstation2 has more titles and some better ones on budget I think (not that into consoles). Given the choice I would go for the Playstation2 I think although one of the only console games I would want to play is for the X-Box (MechAssault).

Well, it is well known that PS2 games are mainly one player and GameCube games are mainly multiplayer. However, I have no idea about Xbox.

If you plan to play alone often then a PS2 is probably fine. But if you want to play a lot with your friends, don't take one. You'll be disapointed unless your group is the pen&paper style who like to watch someone playing RPG or the like...

I've heard from my brother that a PS2 is a crappy DVD reader anyways. Often, as he experienced with one of his friend who own the PS2, the reading eye get out of sync and you then can't use any of the PS2 games until it "fixes itself".

Since they discovered that, that friend simply bought a dirty cheap DVD player instead (around 20-30$ at Wallmart? How cheap can they be  ) and they only use their PS2 to play PS2 games...

It's the games that make a console so I would opt for the PS2, Xbox may be technically superior but there isn't really that much between them.
