Google DOSBox. Go to the DOSBox website. Click on the DOSBox tutorial.

There is a turorial on this site Leavo. But if you really are stumped and can achieve nothing, start a thread in the Troubleshooting forum and we'll be happy to help you in more depth than generic answers in a game thread.

Right at the very top of the Troubleshooting forum. http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=14406
BTW, read the DOSBox readme. If you did, you'd never have to ask either of those questions

I'm having trouble with Joy to Key and using a gamepad. Has anyone tried using this game with that software?

This game seemed perfect for a gamepad, but the controls are behaving strangely. Like if i push the thrust key too rapidly when I'm driving my rover, it will return to the ship as though I hit the return button. Same problem when I'm navigate around a solar system. It will hightlight the menu to the right if I tap the thrust key too rapidly.

Anyone encounter the same?

Edit - The reason I'm trying to use JoyToKey is I wanted the gamepad to work like the keyboard. I had much better control with the keyboard. The gamepad and the analog joysticks work, but when I control my rover and ships, they spin around too much. I tried to switch control instead to the direction pad and thrust to a button. But it seems the gamepad is getting confused between it's default behavior and this new JoyToKey control placed on top of it.

Just had a thought. Wonder if I could turn off the joystick in the DOSBox config? That way the only control would be through JoyToKey. hmmm... so crazy it just might work.

EDIT - Yep, that fixed it. Set Joysticktype=none. At first I tried setting Buttonwrap=false and that helped but it still had the old joystick settings for some buttons. So I just shut the joystick off in DOSbox and let Joy to Key take over completely.

Default awesome game!

maybe it's my nostalgia talking, but this game deserves a higher user rating! I loved this game when it came out and still do.
The best thing to do right off is to go to Earth and do what the starbase commander suggests.
Also, get the Urquan Masters port and all the extras for it! You won't run into so many technical problems. This is one of the few old games I come back to time and again to play, it's just awesome! So be sure to send your petition to get the original creators to make a sequal, thanks!
