well one thing is for sure... people will stop making potions Rocky style (raw eggs).

Otherwise there is no need to panic (yet). untill the virus mutates with normal flu and is carried by caughing, people should just cook their poultry (which i normally do anyway).

Was talking with my girfriend the other day. they had flu for quite some time now. even few people died. she panicked at first, but now it's over a year they have it. and all she does is just make sure that chicken is cooked enough. and so far so good.

It was hugely overblown by the media, and there's nothing you can do about it, so why worry?
I second that k:

The thing is, they say that the flu is mutating, and it will spread between people.

First I heard people here in Iceland say "oh it's no problem, it won't come here. We're on an island". But every year, a bunch of birds fly to Africa and Southern Europe, from Iceland, for the winter. They'll return in couple of weeks. It's pretty darn sure that the flu will come then.

I'm not really that nervous about it, but my parents and sister are quitting eating bird meat soon, I guess I'll do it too.

My aunt was telling me about an emergency meeting they had at the hospital she works at, about the flu. I can't tell you everything she told me, but I can tell you that it's a bit more serious than people tend to think.

Gene therapy, last I heard, was something else entirely. An organism suffers from a condition brought about by a gene that is either faulty or missing. Gene therapy attempts to introduce good copies of the gene into the cells of the organism, in the hopes that the cell expresses the gene. I must not know enough about gene therapy, as I have yet to hear of a plausible explanation for how the introduced gene is incorporated by the cell. Be that as it may, viruses are an example of gene therapy, so I do not doubt gene therapy's potential
Well, the virus protein casing are used to inject new chromosomes into the affected cells. Think about it. They target specific cells, and insert the gene directly into the cells DNA. It's a rather neat concept.

BTW - isn't anybody worried of the snail flu? The incubation period is 2 days and every single living organism dies 6 hours after the virus strikes.

But the stupid virus chose a bad carrier, because given the speed of snail, the contamination area was a small puddle in the central park with the possibility of the snail flu spreding further half a meter if the weather conditions were really in teh favour of it!
