Please don't use RPG Maker! Unless RPG Maker XP has support for action/adventure RPGs like LttP... I know that RPG Maker 2k only did turn-based combat. A game that plays like LttP already has a gameplay/fun advantage over traditional RPGs. It may take more effort, but this is a great style of game. I'm always trying to plug C++ and SDL though (try them!). They can make the difference between programming a game and 'making' a game with RPG Maker's lame restrictions.
