Default English for non-English speakers who want to learn

The Internet is an international network and as such draws a crowd from every corner of the world. To many, English is their first or secondary language, or they know enough English to make themselves understood without any misunderstandings due to poor translations.

This is not their topic.

This topic is for non-English speakers who would like to learn English better. Here you can ask for translations of sentences, questions about grammar, anything language related that you want to improve your skills on.

You can post the original sentence or word in your own language but since not everyone might speak your language, please be patient and wait till someone who do, can give you a proper translation.

This is a SERIOUS topic. No spamming, no harrassment, no bullying is allowed. This topic will be heavily moderated to keep it a good, constructive topic.

This topic is for LEARNING.

MOD NOTE: I will be watching this thread VERY carefully. If you have no business in the thread do not post. If we need to teach people forum functions please be aware that there may be double posting etc. and it is ok. - LuluJane

First lesson? You just opened it by asking for the meaning of the word "certain"
From Dictionary.com

1. free from doubt or reservation; confident; sure: "I am certain he will come."

2. destined; sure to happen (usually fol. by an infinitive): "He is certain to be there."

3. inevitable; bound to come: "They realized then that war was certain."

4. established as true or sure; unquestionable; indisputable: "It is certain that he tried."

5. fixed; agreed upon; settled: "on a certain day"; "for a certain amount."

6. definite or particular, but not named or specified: "A certain person phoned. He had a certain charm."

7. that may be depended on; trustworthy; unfailing; reliable: "His aim was certain."

8. some though not much: "a certain reluctance."

PS: I took the liberty of changing your post. Have a look at this:
So, what are the first lessons? By the way, what does 'certain' mean?

It seems withered our theme. How do you think?

I think you have enough steam to keep it going for quite some time, Eugene.

So if you want to ask anything else...
