Ozzie's Offers
Hi people!
I just wrote a review for Secrets of the Pyramids and I wasn't sure where to post it, so I thought it would be a good idea to drop it here! It still needs a grammar check, though... I also took a few screenshots from the game that might come in handy. As you can tell, I'd like to apply as a reviewer! Greetings, Ozzie Last edited by Ozzie; 31-01-2010 at 04:35 AM. |

Anyway, I could repackage the game files and upload it together with the review and screenshots, when I get the FTP access. Would it be okay to compress with 7-ZIP, BTW? The file would be smaller than with ZIP... Greets, Ozzie |

zip can be unpacked with anything, 7zip - only with 7zip and we host only zip files

That's not really true. You can also unpack 7-Zip with WinRAR, don't know how it is with other solutions. I just assume that 7-Zip would spare a bit hosting space in the end, but I guess it has its reasons.

Man, it's no fun to upload to the FTP server. All the time the client wants to overwrite files and I have no idea why. And then, in the end, they're only halfway up and corrupted. Gah!
Hm...it seems like the client realizes that he couldn't fully upload the file, so he tries again, and so he asks me if I want to overwrite the file. Overall, it just doesn't work. :-/ Could I just upload the stuff somewhere else and be done with it? Ugh... Oh, and now I have the following folder structure: Ozzie -> Secrets of the Pyramids -> Ozzie -> Secrets of the Pyramids. I don't know how it happened, but I can't do anything about it. What a mess... |

Yeah, just upload it wherever you want. Send us the link through PM and we'll move the files to the FTP.

Heh, thanks for the offer!
But I think I found out what the problem was and I managed to upload the screenshots and my review. And there are remains, some bytes, of an unsuccessful upload of the splitted game archive. The archive would have been bigger than 150MB anyways, and I don't know a way to make it smaller. I thought of just packing the installed files, but I don't know how I could edit them that the game looks in the installed folders for the files and not for the CD... I'm not sure of how much use my review is if I won't get the game under the limit...maybe someone has an idea? I opened the exe file in a hex editor and found the CD check there, but I don't know how to remove it...and the registry key is encoded somehow, so you can't change the path there either... |

Uncompressed, it's 588MiB, plus 24MiB sub channel data. Compressed, I got it down to 151MiB. Close call, huh?
The archive wasn't smaller without the sub channel data either... Edit: About compression: I should mention that I used a slow notebook for compression on 32-bit Windows with only one gig RAM. The image could probably be more compressed on a more powerful computer. But then, only ZIP is allowed, and I already used the more efficient 7ZIP. So I don't think you could get it under 150MB with ZIP. Last edited by Ozzie; 30-12-2009 at 03:37 PM. |
