Hey! I've found a project (most of you maybe already know, but for me it's new) called DoomsDay. They've now made doom compleletely 3d using openGL. Including 3D models for monsters and items + extra things like barrels, pillars etc. Lights are enhanced, and you can play multiplayer over the internet. Although there aren't any public servers yet (anymore...).

The site of DoomsDay is here:
http://www.doomsdayhq.com/

BTW, you'll need your own wad file though (doom.wad or doom2.wad). Playing shareware is also possible using doom1.wad! You can also play heretic or hexen with this program!

Ah! Downloaded it some months ago! Had a great time running through both doom I and II over a cuople of weeks. It's two really great games! Both the maps and atmosphere were so cool. And the music... About 15 years later I still can spontanously start to hum on some of the tunes...

There's also work on porting the original Doom levels to Doom 3. Haven't downloaded it yet, but it looks fun: http://cdoom.d3files.com/index.php?page=news

It's not working. I installed it, and I can get to the main screen, but after trying to start a new game, the menu disappears, and nothing happens...
