Just to spare it from another member.
Use the edit button on your posts instead of double-posting. D&D would be good, it's just hard to find the better D&D games with custom parties.

no, we wouldn't be using a D&D game (like baldur's gate, neverwinter nights, etc).
We'd be using an actual pen and paper adventure used in official D&D adventures by Wizards of the Coast registered members. If my previous sentence didnt make sense, I'll explain. pen and paper D&D (where people have a bunch of stats on paper and roll dice) is still widely played everywhere. I took the WotC (wizards of the coast) quiz for becoming an official DM (dungeon master) and passed. I can run games in any official WotC event. So what my suggestion is about in this forum-based game would be: 1. players state that they'd like to play. The game rules are similar to Baldur's gate (which uses slightly simplified core D&D rules) 2. players create their characters in baldur's gate or similar games, then post their stats, inventory, etc. 3. when at least 4 players have made their characters, the game begins. 4. the DM starts the adventure by telling the characters where they are (usually a village/town/city) and what they can do (rumors they have heard, jobs offered by the mayor/king/etc). 5. the players decide on a course of action. how does that sound? |

I know what Pen & Paper is.
But generally we have screenshots to show the outcome of each scenario. Or something like that. I still want to do a Fallout Tactics game.

I think he's just saying that in our current games, the person running the game posts screenshots showing major in-game events. See the UFO thread for example. Obviously, you couldn't do this with a pen-and-paper RPG, unless maybe you wanted to post digital photos of dice rolls. Oooo, exciting! BTW, I support the idea of a pen-and-paper RPG, and I might consider playing, except that I'm worried I might occasionally not be able to post for several days, which would bring the game grinding to a halt.

There's a simple work-around for inactive players. If there's no battle going on, they just automatically follow the others.
If there's a battle, the DM plays their part. As for screenshots, which I understand would be used as an update of current status, we can have, in the first post of the topic, have a list of: - players with their current stats, inventories, active spells, etc. - current quest - current map (if possible, i.e: town or dungeon) would be an image - current battle (list of enemies and their status: fighting, disabled, unconscious, dead, turned, stunned, etc...) |

D&D rules (I think...)
I'm not that into D&D (it takes forever to set up, and my family/friends aren't really into it either so its not like theres a huge ammount of people I could play it with) but I think a forum D&D game would be awesome!! I'd be willing to try and keep updates/tabs on it if you wanna do it... |

Those aren't the rules, just the changes made after the handbooks were printed. A copy of the rulebook is about $25-$40 (just for the player handbook)
or you can get the pdf versions from p2p networks I sure would want to see this get off the ground though. |
