i'm really interested in music tastes of people and comparing them with mine. being a kind of a music freak, i guess it figures
anyway, feel free to post what you like here. i'd be really interested in reading that!

as for me, i really listen to anything that grabs my attention in a special way. i try not to limit my taste and to broaden my horizons, which is always interesting at least. but for the most part, i usually listen to electronic, alternative stuff; music like trip hop and other similar genres, and even pop - where i'm really picky though

tori amos, bjork, massive attack, portishead, hooverphonic, lamb, cocteau twins.. just some of those i like. and for the more exotic fields, utada hikaru, shiina ringo or faye wong...

and yeah, game music is often great and not noticed enough... so feel free to talk about that too!

Because he's interested in our musical taste. he doesn't want to share or request any music. you should read the descriptions under certain topics some time.

As for the question at hand,

I am a huge fan of punkrock, metal, etc. Other than that i am versatile. Very versatile to be precise. As long as i think it sounds good, i like it. (this goes from soul to classical. Yes, it's that versatile.)

As for game music, UT2004 has some awesome musical scores as well as GGX, GGXX#reload And GGX Isuka. Vampire - Bloodlines and Total overdose are heard by my ears on a daily basis.

Game music....some of the stuff Nobuo Uematsu (The guy who does/did the music at Square) does is pretty good.

Other than that, I like Lounge music, Reggae, Jazz and I'm a sucker for anything Downbeat and Trip Hop.

thanks for the replies!
hadiel>yes, that IS versatile. i don't really listen to classical music, but i appreciate it very much. incorporating it into modern stuff often sounds just great (lamb - gorecki - even though that uses a symphony from 20th century; or say, front line assembly - fragmented) so two thumbs up for that!
i used to listen to metal, but that's so long ago now! so i'm really off the track now as far as metal goes; sadly it doesn't do much to me now. i know i used to enjoy tristania though, for example, or within temptation... however after the two dubious covers i've heard from them (tori amos - crucify and kate bush - running up that hill) i've come to the conclusion they should stick to the original material no offense though. so what do you prefer?
i haven't heard the soundtrack to UT2004 as the game passed me by so to say; but i really really like what i've heard in the original UT (as well as unreal - wonderful tracks); UT's music was more on the dynamic side though of course, and i can imagine clubbing to that. actually, my bro's going to use it in his DJ set soon, wise choice i'd say...

Henning>if you haven't, you might try the other square composers too. yasunori mitsuda and yoko shimomura are those that come to my mind now; mitsuda's work for xenogears was delightful and shimomura's score for parasite eve.. i really enjoyed that too. the games are great too, by the way
anywaaay... what downbeat/trip hop stuff do you like? and do you like acid jazz? i've come to really like that some time ago.

looong reply.. duh.

I never played Xenogears or Parasite Eve, but the former is most definitely on my list.
I'm a big fan of Thievery Corporation and a number of Lounge compilation, mostly Bar Lounge Classics, I also like Kruder&Dorfmeister, Boozoo Bajou, Tosca, Yonderboi, Moby, Air, Zero 7, and the like. As for Trip Hop, I mostly listen to the 'old skool' kind. The Bristol kind. Massive Attack, Portishead, and so on.
My only contact with 'acid jazz' has been Jamiroquai (speaks for itself, doesn't it? ), so I can't say much about that, but I've been meaning to look into it. Can you recommend anything/anyone?

My God mg2: . You must be my evil twin double, or something, coz that's just what I listen to, cept maybe the trip hop thing. I love Nobuo Uematsu, especially the piano collections albums. These just about sum up my preferences, but I'll listen to just about anything, from Metallica to Peggy Lee, from Deep Purple to Harry Conick Jr, if it's got a good tune. Incidently my favourite song ever is Drops of Jupiter by Train.

:w00t: I always wanted an evil twin!

I used to play lots of Nobuo Uematsu's stuff when I was still playing the keyboard.

P.S.: Funk is the sh*t!

EDIT - Damn filter.
EDIT2 - Somehow I always click reply when I want to click edit.

i've played parasite eve as well (although i've never finished neither of the games) and it's really good too. more rpg than survival horror if you ask me, at least the first one.
i too think that the 'old skool' trip hop is the best... both massive attack and portishead should release an album this year, so let's hope it clicks and we get to listen to something new. i'm more than eager to listen to the portishead one as they released their last studio album 10 years ago... and i'm sure that massive attack aren't going to disappoint me, i really loved the more electronic direction of '100th window' and the 'unleashed/danny the dog' soundtrack was really nice too.
as for acid jazz, it's a bit hard to classify. when i was looking for acid jazz stuff, the artists are usually labeled as being 'trip hop', 'nujazz' and other genres too, so it's a bit hard to say what 'pure' acid jazz really is. anyway, i really like kyoto jazz massive, although it seems their work is mostly remixing. worth checking out though. another one who comes to mind is yukihiro fukutomi, i quite liked the album i've heard (love each other).
wikipedia has a list of acid jazz artists too, so that might be a place to start too...

Please tell me more about those albums, I didn't hear anything about that. Also, I've been wanting to get 100th Window, how would you rate it compared to the older albums. Also Portishead, I must say, is a bit too...."dark" for me. But I'm still looking forward to a new album.
Acid jazz....I already checked the wikipedia list, and they had a crapload of artists that were labeled as a anything but acid jazz...also Amazon is not good at all for shopping by genre.
Kyoto Jazz Massive....I've only heard single tracks so far, but I'll have to check them again, see if I like it.

And does anyone have recommendations for Drum&Bass? Preferably the 'slower' kind...

I like blues and rock(especially progressive, mmm) music, but I am also fond of ska music, jazz and other variations mixing the before mentioned genres.
This is my last.fm account if anyone is interested in the bands I like. :P
