Rules updated 11/02(mm/dd)
------------ The Game ------------ Here's the game : download And, obviously : official website Get it, it's free. An excerpt from their site : Quote:
The game is just that awesome. Did I mention it's free? ------------ The Rules ------------ Before we begin, do note that I'm shamelessly borrowing from Andrew_Fireborn (Wyrdysm forums). So kudos to him. We'll stick to creating only large ships for this first tourney (i.e. I'm deleting the rules for cruisers and frigates). Battleships Forever doesn't enforce any special rules on the ships you design. You can create a "god ship" that is completely invincible. Obviously, that would make for a very uninteresting tourney. Therefore, your creation must abide by the following rules : Quote:
I'd like to start small. The tournament is gonna be battleship-class only (just follow to rules shown above). The first tourney will pit 8 to 12 (we'll see how popular this gets) opponents against each other (one on one). I'll create the ladder (randomly). The tournament will start <strike>on October 29th (so you've got about a week to create the best spaceship ever)</strike> as soon as we've got enough players. We need at least 6 contestants. I won't bother with the simulations if this minimum isn't met... ------------ Submitting a ship ------------ Post (here) a link to download your .sb2 and .shp files. You can submit your creations to the official database and get a free hosting/download link. You could also use rapidshare our megaupload. As long as I can get my hands on the files, it really doesn't matter. Write your ship's name (try to come up with something that sounds official ). Also add a picture of your ship and a small description. Ideally, you should also post how you've spent your 100 points as it'll make verifying everything faster. If you've got time, you may also add a short backstory for your ship. It adds to the fun (it really does). --------------------------------------------- That's it! Start creating (and discussing design strategies and whatnot)! |

now for constructive crtiticsm:
your list is missing missiles as a component (maybe other stuff too, I didn't look too closely), and the game is missing Hit-and-Run routines, and many other usefull tactics. also, I suggest you lower your exectations, or allow multiple submissions- otherwise we'll never start. also, this is pretty much moot right now, but due to a large RPS factor of the ship designs, I think ships should be orgainzed in 4-6 ship groups of which the best (or the best 2) would go up the ladder, I know this would require much more time (and I'm willing to help), but the other way will not provide good results. edit: finaly I'm proud to present: Kursk Class 16 decks, 2 of which are armored to to 500 standard units. comfortable 0.1g accelration and turning, and a top speed of 0.5 thousnad miles per hour. 8 high caliber guns (4 tachyons and 4 railguns) and 8 light guns (gatling pulsers). Nicknamed "Crab" by the USCF personel, Kursk is Confederations workhorse heavy cruiser, serving both at the Keraskhian border and escorting large convoys in the confederation itself. |

I'm not sure what you mean by hit-and-run routines. Flanking AI with a high speed? Feel free to use that... I have lowered my expectations quite a bit (read my previous post ). For some reason I remembered this place as having a very active community . Don't you think that allowing multiple submissions would kinda ruin the competition? The idea is that you get only one shot so you better have quite the design. I guess that I don't mind running the simulations if there are at least 6 competitors. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(a1s @ Oct 24 2007, 02:03 PM) </div> Quote:
Here's a screenshot of "the Crab" fighting the Balthasar for those who'd rather not install the game and/or download the file : |

you only need to supply a ship, and ol' sheep will do the rest.
