Well this tragedy speaks for itself. Period. I won't go into details, most of you already know my opinion on this <_<

well i am shocked because no one noticed that she was abused in such a way. i mean with emotional pressures. wasn't she allowed to have friends or something? a cute girl like that must have had someone to turn to... or was it all just on the web and no one noticed it?
and also i am still not quite clear why any juvenile would be triled as an adult? if they can be triled as aduls why can't they get the right to vote then? i mean that makes them equal to adults in justice system so in that case they would also have the right to vote wouldn't they? Also imagine her getting even more pressure in prison, getting tough and going towards the way criminals usually go. neverending "down" spiral... you would get out a mastermind genious criminal capable of mass murder and not get caught... what good would that do to the country? instead of having a brilliant scientist or composer you would have a brilliant criminal. Because let's face it prisons mostly don't really correct people. they just put them away for certain period.

Stupid DA being so damn insensitive. I think he hates Asians and is looking to take out that prejudice on this little girl.

I spent a lot of yesterday reading a bunch of stuff about this issue, including Esmie's journal, and a website set up by members of the community she lived in begging the District Attorney to try her as an adult - not because she isn't guilty, but because everyone in the community loved her, and felt she deserved rehabilitation as opposed to hard time in an adult facility.
She was a very intelligent, very angry teenage girl. Her entire journal is filled with typical teenage hormonal angst. She wasn't who her parents wanted her to be, and they punished her constantly for not being good enough. She tried to live up to it, and failed. There are a few suicidal references (almost like she was trying to talk herself out of it), a few very telling posts regarding how she dealt with emotion (she says she doesn't get sad, but that she's not repressing it - yeah right), etc. The posts right before it happened are really sad (they're protected, you have to dig to find them). It's almost like she finally realized that no matter what she did, she would never be perfect. She was hoping to get an apartment with a friend to get away from it. She wrote a letter to a friend that was also posted in her journal by the friend, and copied on several websites after she was arrested. She doesn't sound very guilty. She seems relieved, a lot happier than she was prior to the event, and more than a little "out of it." I really think she just lost it, and that she needs serious help. Maybe I'm just interpreting her writings sympathetically, but it seems a lot more sad than evil in my mind. |
