Well, .pdf files been created around the time Windows 95 got out. So I would guess that even if you do find a pdf reader for DOS (which I doubt) then you won't be able to read most of those files because it's such an old program he won't be able to read the recent versions.

Why don't you just print the revelant parts of the .pdf file instead?

Omuletzu: On Dave's page, which you linked to yourself, there are links to psview and xpdf, which both claims to be able to read pdf files, although I havent tried them myself.

However I found this link to Acrobat Reader 1.0 for DOS! This is the same one that came with my Syndicate installation, and at least it works with the pdf file I got with that game. Not sure about newer files, though...

And Eagle: I don't entirely agree that abandonia is primarily for those who didn't play those games, but for a large part it's also for nostalgia for us who DID play a lot of those games. And I think the games should be provided as original as possible, maybe zipped install disks, so it indeed could be installed and played on old computers. Hacks for making them playable on modern-day computers should be included in the archives or be available as extras.


On an end not I'd also like to mension that I have an option to dualboot my XP-system to MS-DOS 7.1 (site seems to be down) and it works quite well. I use mo'slo for games/progs that can't handle fast computers, and sometimes patch exe's with CRT-fix for those runtime 200's. I can even use Arachne web browser for dos on my ADSL! Only trouble is sometimes with VESA 2.0 games not handling my Geforce 4 card...

Of course Dosbox 0.63 is handy for staying in XP k:

No talon i'm referring to Adobe Acrobat Reader for Dos.Pkunzip is an archiver.

If you can get DOS to work on your system, use it because if you have an old enough OS then your system probably isn't fast enough for dosbox.

And it's working great minus the fact that i can't read pdf files :crazy:

Well, still not tried the progz, and won't either as I'm away from my comp for the holidays, but:

1. I espected you knew this already, since you provided a link to Dave's page yourself, but it IS a DOS only site...

2. The first 7 words on the PSVIEW site is "PSVIEW: PostScript and PDF viewer for DOS"

3. Xpdf's download page has precompiled binaries for DOS6, here is a quicklink to that file.

So I suspsect those really are for DOS...

I fiddled around with Dosbox last night anyway, so I decided to try it out... I couldn't get the psview to work, and it didn't give any usable feedback either... It is a wrapper for several other progs (som found in the xpdf package too) so I looked at the source for psview (included) and tried to run the progs manually, but it stopped up with gs (ghostscript)... Could be DosBox, though... Maybe gonna try on my real dos machine myself, but it won't be before new years...

However, I tried pdftext in the xpdf package, and it seemed to work, that is, outputting the text to a textfile... Use "-eol dos" to get the linebreaks correct...
