I went start -> run -> msconfig

I tried to remove some things in the startup to make it run faster and it said cannot do this because I am not an administrator... yet I am the administrator. Any tips?

First of all, have you LOGGED IN as the admin? Even if you are the admin, you usually log in as just another user.

to check if you are an admin you can either look in the user accounts in control panel or from a command prompt enter ' control userpasswords2 ' and check which group it says your account is in .

also if removing from startup I would recommend using Spybot Search and Destroy as if you change it to advanced mode then goto tools then system startup it will give you a description for each program that runs on startup and you can easily disable them by removing the tick next to them.

If you're not a terribly experienced user, I'd recommend finding a startup cleaning tool. While I can't publicly recommend my favorite because it's actually custom software that's designed for one of the big chain electronics store 'tech squads,' a suite designed for tuneups and the like will be able to help you decipher which startup entries are safe, which are potentiall bad, and which are unnecessary. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about what I mean.

or just use spybot which is free and works fine for most uses

Spybot is great for most uses, but only offers control for applications and .DLLs that run at startup. If you like a little more control, like me, a more robust application will let someone have some control over services and drivers too.
