If that doesn't work, you might just try to download Soundblaster offline, I know if you google it you should find a website that will let you get it for the new windows.

But then usually without the CD-drive support and eventually without sound (at least in Windows 98 and XP).

I actually think this is pretty usefull. My computer is old and sucks, therfore some of the games runs very slow in dosbox (Even if I raise the frameskip and CPU cycles). If I could run it in XP, it would help a lot. I haven't tried it yet, but I probably will some time.

If your PC is as old as that, you'll probably be better off installing Windows 98 instead. With it you'll have almost no problems running most old games.

I need XP for some of the other programs I'm running on the machine. And I hate Win98, not stabil enough.

For sound in XP for DOS games, you need VDMSound. It's a nice little program and I beleive DosBOX actually use it (it is mentioned in the thanks file).

I always use VDMSound, and I can count the number of games that did not work on my XP on my fingers.

Most of the time when a old game doesn't want to work, the problem is directly related to sound. Most old games would not work if you setted the wrong sound settings in the setup.exe!

Well I happen to like DosBox a lot. I have a 3Ghz PC with winxp so it runs perfect. Getting dos games to run without it is too much of a hassle. Most of them I can't get sound working. I grew up with dos so I guess dosbox is just natural for me.

Please do no bring back old threads. This thread is several months old now and I was really wondering how I managed to overlook such an important thread until I noticed that I had already replyed in it in the second page...
