I can get online most of the time, but my modem keeps dying randomly, and I don't know why. I've tried all sorts of different things to fix it, but I've come up with nothing. It's a Scientific Atlanta DPX100 (broadband connection) and the drivers and everything are fine. Any ideas?

have you called your provider and asked if there's any issues with their connection?

That's a really good point. I didn't think of that. I'll certainly ask them. Thanks!

EDIT : Just saw a news article from last month that says following a network upgrade they suffered connectivity issues in Gateshead and Gillingham which were soon dealt with. Although this is nowhere near me, they may be doing some maintenance or something which is affecting my area now.

EDIT part 2 : Phoned my service provider, one of their technicians sent me to a page containing my modem settings and directed as to what I needed to change...hopefully it should work again now. Apparently if it doesn't I'll need to book a technician appointment, and that would mean I'd have to tidy up a bit around here :P.

Dont call the technicians until you have tried fixing it yourself. Try pushing all the cabels on the modem and the one plugged into the phone socket check that end same for the one plugged into your pc. Sometime slosse connections do that kind of thing happened to me.
