When Australia was a british colony, they dumped criminals there. When it became independent, they were free and became statesmen.

...aren't you from Australia?

Very little of the Australian population actually consists of those convicts or the descendents of those convicts.

I am planning to go on holiday to Slovenia or Croatia this year. Anyone knows places worth seeing and staying there?
I know this is not a 'game' topic, nevertheless I believe this is a good place to ask - so many members come from thehe countries...
I will appreciate any info.
I was in Bohisnjska Bistrica and Bled in Slovenia, and it is great vacation destination for winter, but not so sure 'bout summer. (If you like hiking, it might be a nice destination)

As Slovenia is a small country, you can actually visit most of interesting places without driving to much.

Dalmatia is nice with many historical locations, so any place will have something to offer.

You can even decide to go to Bosnia, where in April will start work on site which supposed to have first European pyramid. (Near Visoko, 25Km from Sarajevo)

If there is a Pyramid belove there, European history require some fixes.

oh i forgot: Plitvice. althought i am not sure their current status i remember them as being quite beautiful (before the war).

sure Bled is nice in summer too. you can camp near the lake, take walks arround it, visit the castle, enjoy ice-cream with a view, row the lake with a canu, cycle arround...

I think that I heard that Plitvice are nice attraction again.

Hm, you can go to Brioni and shoot a bear or two...

Only requirement: You have to have 'Cuba cigar' (Gift from friend Castro) and be called Tito. LOL

When are you coming? How long are you staying?

I'd be more then happy to show you around (and if you need a place to crash - Rainwife and I have some spare room to accomodate you).

But if you'd rather go exploring on your own, there are a few tours I'd suggest (for Slovenija):
- first take some time to get to know the capital (Ljubljana).

-from Ljubljana up to lake Bled (there you should stop to see the Vindgar gorge) with the pilgram church on the tiny island on the lake;
- next lake Bohinj and possibly the waterfall Savica;
- continue to the mountain pass Vršič and go down to the Trenta Valley (beautiful nature);
- once you reach Kobarid you should visit the WW1 museum (the Soča front);
- while near Soča you can decide to go rafting, canoeing... (if that's your sort of thing);
- continue to Nova Gorica (where you can do some gambling as well);
- next you should go to Lipica (where the famous white horses come from) and from there to the Postojna cave (and if you have the time to Škocjanske caves);
- now you'd probably be returning back to Ljubljana (the capital - to finish the first 2-3 day tour).

- next tour takes you south-east, where you should visit the castles on Dolenjska, deffinetly see Kostanjevica na Krki, the monastery Pleterje, Otočec, the monastery Stična, Novo Mest, castle Žuženberg...
- you'll probably end up in Brežice (Čatež) and enjoy a day at the spa;
- now go up to Rogaška Slatina and experiance the craft of glass/crystal making;
- continue up to Slovenska Bistrica (you should sneak a peak at the abandoned monastery Žiče when you're near) and continue from Slovenska Bistrica toward Ptuj (the Castle, the museum, the spa...).
- from there you should go toward Ormož, then Jeruzalem (excelent wine), Ljutomer (stop at our place for lunch - and end the second tour).

- the last tour should take you from Ljutomer to Murska Sobota and along the northern boarder towards Maribor (check out the city) and then head towards the Croatian boarder (passing Ptuj once again).
