I'm kinda amazed that none here mentioned the Ubuntu upgrade to 7.10.
Lots of parrot'in screamers around here on this board -(Vista sucks-XP sucks- M$ sucks- you get what I mean)- but none mentioned the upgrade? Weird. Anyway, You can get the full install CD now for 7.10. Or the upgrade (alternative) CD if you're already on Ubuntu. If you're already on Ubuntu you will get this: PS: CentOS is on '5' now, and -besides a performant server distri- has also a very nice desktop release. Maybe not as easy as Ubuntu, but certainly worth a tryout. Runs in fact faster on my AMD64 Athlon 3500+ than Ubuntu. Damn, you gotta love those HD racks, multiboot without frontiers.

OK. But does it work with new notebooks? Last time i checked plenty drivers were missing althought they say it's a bit better in this version.

About Ubuntu (and Linux). I've proven myself to be incompatible with the Linux way of installing and using programs. As in. am Incompatible with it. Just the case of To Much Windows in the lifespan. It's in those occasions you can definitely say: "Damn You Windows, Damn!!! You Micro$oft!!! <_< " And: "DAMN!!!! YOU! Incompatible brain!" All I'm Still interested in considering Ubuntu are those games you can even access when using the LiveCD. So there isn't a need for it to be on my HD anymore. "Damn! You! Bill! Gates!"

Reason is the OEM versions of the controller chips (mainly SATA, but not only), they need specific drivers for them -(read: non -fuc*ing- standard ones)- , It seems we go back to the incompatible hardware times, and that's a huge step back. Same advise as in an other (parallel) topic: try the live CD first, gives you a good indication if Ubuntu can run on your laptop. (Always try the latest version, of course).
QUOTE(GTX2GvO @ Oct 28 2007, 02:01 PM)
Quote:

I didn't like it. Effects and all looks (maybe someone disagree) reminds me of Windows style. It seemed to me, that it got worse. So I returned to my Ubuntu Studio 7.04.

So you've got a new laptop with FreeDos installed as the operating system on it, or did you install it yourself?
